Structured Cabling Systems

Structured cabling is a construction plan for a future-oriented and application-independent network infrastructure on which different services (voice or data) are transmitted. This is intended to avoid expensive incorrect installations and expansions and to facilitate the installation of new network components. Using various specifications, companies can plan the data centers according to the requirements for public and private domains.

High-capacity and high-performance fiber optic cables

Structured cabling is based on a generally applicable cabling structure that also takes into account the requirements of several decades, contains reserves, can be flexibly expanded and can be used independently of the application.

The advantages of high-speed, high-capacity and high-performance fiber optic cables are widely used worldwide, making them the first choice for data center cabling, whether in the field of structured data center cabling or top-of-rack (ToR) cabling. However, copper cables still play an important role in today's data center cabling. How to avoid unnecessary losses and troubles in deploying these network cables in data centers?

Wiring standards:

ANSI/TIA-942

This standard describes the data center-specific functional areas and gives a minimum recommendation for path and space requirements, the distance between the backbone and the horizontal cable medium, redundancy, cable management and environmental aspects.

EN 50173

EN 50173 is the standard for application-neutral cabling systems. It specifies the requirements for the components required for the manufacture and operation of cabling systems. This standard ensures consistent and reliable operation of cabling systems in different environments.

ISO/IEC 24764

ISO/IEC 24764 defines the cabling used in the data center. This international standard is based on TIA-942 and EN 50173-5 and thus ensures uniform and reliable cabling in data centers worldwide.

IEC 61156-5

This is an international specification that regulates the components and structure of cabling systems in data centers. Different conditions are explained based on the respective environmental conditions in which the cabling is used. In addition, IEC 61156-5 also contains information on cable lugs and connections and their assembly.

ANSI/BICSI 002-2019

This standard contains guidelines for the planning and operation of data centers. It includes planning, construction, commissioning, protection, management and maintenance of the data center as well as cabling infrastructure, paths and rooms. It also includes modular data centers, containerized data centers and energy efficiency, and also describes its own availability class structure for determining reliability.
