Blue DC X | Smart Building

Blue DC X | Smart Building combines the data centre with intelligent building services. The concept supports scalable projects from 24 IT racks to large facilities with a planned connection capacity of up to 60 MW. Actual capacity, expansion phases and supply infrastructure are planned for each project.

Plan efficiency and availability together

The Blue DC approach can be applied to larger data centres for colocation, high-performance computing and AI applications. Cooling, power supply, building services and operations are brought together in one coordinated concept.

We define redundancy and availability targets around your requirements. Cooling design considers IT load, location and operating conditions. PUE targets are agreed with defined measurement boundaries and a specific load profile, then checked during operation.

On-site generation, energy storage and heat reuse can complement the concept. Their contribution to supply and project-specific CO2e emissions depends on the design, energy procurement, assessment boundaries and local opportunities for use.

Monitoring and management support the supervision of energy and operational data. Access protection, fire protection and organisational measures are aligned with the relevant protection objectives.

Applicable legal and standards-based requirements are clarified during planning. Evidence relates to the agreed site, specific design and assessed scope.

Climate-neutral data centres: boundaries and evidence

A low PUE alone does not demonstrate climate neutrality. Assessing a climate-neutral data centre requires a transparent greenhouse gas inventory with a defined reporting period and boundaries. Electricity procurement, refrigerants and the lifecycle stages included must be stated, alongside documented emission avoidance and reduction measures. Blue DC X does not itself establish that a facility or its operation is climate-neutral. For Blue DC X, we assess the building, IT capacity, power supply and heat users as a coordinated system.

Compare configuration options. The classes and levels are selectable configuration options: availability 1–4, protection classes 1–4 and measurement granularity 1–3. The chosen availability class requires consistent power, cooling and cabling design; protection classes are assigned to the relevant security zones. Selection is based on the risk assessment and agreed scope of supply. An availability class does not specify a fixed uptime percentage.

Check marks indicate available services and functions that can be integrated. Certification support covers planning and evidence preparation; certification is awarded by the competent independent body. Emissions measurement and accounting provide assessment data, not a blanket promise of CO₂ savings.

Product codes: BDC + model + number of racks.rack units. Example BDCA1.47: Blue DC A with one rack and 47 U. The listed series use 47 U per rack; 24 racks provide 1,128 U and 124 racks 5,828 U.

¹ Blue DC A: 1–6 racks with 30–120 kW of IT power per rack. The sizing example 6 × 120 kW × 1.25 gives a total supply requirement of 900 kW. The factor 1.25 is a sizing assumption, not a measured PUE value. Cooling, grid connection, reserves and redundancy require technical verification before implementation. Sizing and cooling design →

² PUE values are design targets. Actual performance depends on factors including utilisation, climate, cooling technology and measurement boundaries, and is determined during operation. The stated power and rack ranges do not guarantee that every maximum can be achieved simultaneously in a single configuration.
